Hortobágy National Park
Within the area of Hortobágy National Park, entertainment opportunities are available for every member of the family. It is an excellent excursion option during a stay in Hajdúszoboszló.
Hortobágy is Hungary’s most famous steppe, where the endless plains and unspoiled nature offer a truly unique experience. One of the landscape’s iconic landmarks, the Nine-Arch Bridge, is not only a popular photographic attraction but also one of the most well-known symbols of Hortobágy traditions. The Hortobágy Museum provides insight into the history of the steppe, the everyday life of shepherds, and the cultural heritage of the region.
At the Máta Stud Farm, visitors can experience the renowned equestrian traditions of Hortobágy and Hungary’s native horse breeds up close, while a horse-drawn carriage tour across the steppe allows exploration of the area’s unique wildlife among ancient Hungarian animals such as Hungarian grey cattle, racka sheep, and buffalo. The programme is completed by the Hortobágy Wildlife Park, where characteristic wild animals of the Carpathian Basin can be observed in habitats resembling their natural environment.
Hortobágy is an ideal destination for those seeking nature-based experiences, authentic traditions, and lasting cultural impressions.
At the Hortobágy National Park Visitor Centre, tourists arriving at the national park receive comprehensive information about the region’s tourism programmes (Nine-Arch Bridge, Bird Hospital, Steppe Animal Park, Hortobágy Wildlife Park, Fish Ponds Narrow-Gauge Railway, Máta Stud Farm) and catering facilities. A natural history exhibition presenting the flora and fauna of the national park can also be visited here.
